This board and batten carriage house was designed as a multi-functional structure which houses a garage at ground level, guest quarters above and changing rooms for the pool located a half flight down. The cross gabled structure topped by a cupola and weather vane is visually and physically connected via a trellised walkway to the main house. Taking advantage of the existing hillside, a stucco retaining wall provides privacy for the pool below. The narrow rectangular pool edged in bluestone and surrounded by a grassy terrace, is the focus of this outdoor room defined with cedar trellises and fencing based on a gridded module.
