This house, located in upstate New York, is a modern 20’ x 36’ shed, inspired by Japanese garden pavilions and rustic weathered barns.
It sits just below the crest of a secluded rocky knoll surrounded by trees with dramatic views of the Hudson highlands, and is approached via a gravel footpath, fieldstone steps and a footbridge. The main entry is at the top floor which houses the master bedroom and study with adjoining bath. Below are the living/dining spaces, kitchen and exterior decks facing south and west.

Building materials consist of a standing seam zinc roof, horizontal cedar siding teak wood windows and wood decks. This colour palette is continued indoors with the grey concrete floor on the lower level, fir decking floors and ceilings and exposed fir beams, punctuated with white walls and white floating ceiling panels. Kitchen and bathroom cabinets are teak with counters in carrarra marble and zinc.
